Advice/FAQ's:

Here you can find answers to frequently asked questions that we get from our customers and advice on cleaning your flooring etc.

Q. Why don't you display prices on some your products and what does (POA) mean?

A. Retailers like Ourselves have the right to set our own prices independently from the flooring manufacturers, some manufacturers place restrictions on how low the prices of products can be publicly advertised.

Because our price may be lower than the manufacturer’s “minimum advertised or recommended sale price” the manufacturer does not allow us to display these prices on our website, we offer a Price on application (POA) instead but most products still show a price when on the actual product page. This allows us to maintain the lowest possible prices for all of our customers without upsetting the manufacturers or the competition.

We can deliver lower prices because of our long standing relationships with reputable Australian suppliers. Being an online business means that we have a lot less costs involved then if we were to have a Physical Store and we save on showroom costs etc. so that has helped us pass all of those savings onto you through the prices of our products, no matter where you live in Australia.

Q. What is the difference between different types of Flooring and which one will suit my area ?

A. What is Hybrid Flooring? Hybrid Flooring is a rigid core floating floor product that is made up of a Stone/Plastic composite and has combined the best attributes of laminate and vinyl, whilst also eliminating the need to use underlay. The high-density core and tough surface of hybrid flooring makes it stain-resistant, scratch-resistant, 100% water-resistant, pet friendly and will suit any area.

A. What is Laminate Flooring? Laminate Flooring is made using a High-Density Fireboard (HDF), covered with a high-definition image to give a natural timber look and is finished with a tough transparent wear layer, the materials used to manufacture makes it one of the most affordable flooring types you can buy. The High-Density core and other layers makes these products highly dent-resistant ,scratch-resistant, water resistant and a pet friendly flooring option.

A. What is Engineered Timber/Oak Flooring? Engineered Timber/Oak Flooring is an alternative to solid timber floors that consists of a thinner (1-4mm) top layer of hardwood or Oak glued on top of a more affordable plywood substrate (usually ply, pine, or rubber wood) Engineered flooring is more water resistant and is less likely to fluctuate with temperate changes than solid hardwood options. Engineered Floorboards are highly scratch-resistant and water -resistant but if needed you can sand and refurbish engineered floors years later just like a traditional hardwood floor up to 2-3 times.

A. What is Bamboo Flooring? You have two types of Bamboo Floorboards 1. Solid Strand Woven Bamboo Floorboards This type of Bamboo flooring is made by using a process to shred the bamboo and pressing it together using high temperatures, then weaving and interlocking the bamboo together to make the thickness of the floorboards (usually 14mm), making it highly scratch- resistant and dent-resistant and would be your best option for high foot traffic areas.

2. Waterproof Engineered Bamboo Floorboards. Also Known as HydroPro Bamboo Flooring is manufactured by sticking a Bamboo Veneer onto a 100% waterproof base, Making this product Immune to swelling or warping when exposed with moisture unlike some solid Bamboo options out there.

Q. How long does Installation of flooring take and how long will my free measure and quote take ?

A. Installation if required usually takes 1-3 days depending on the size of the area and what is required in the job, if floor preparation is required it may take longer but in most cases your floor will be done in two days even if preparation is required. When you get a free measure and quote from us you can expect us to be there for about 30mins - 1 hour so we have time to measure your area and talk to you about flooring options etc. if necessary.

Q. How do I figure out how many m2 my floor area is  and how to figure out how many boxes to order based of my floor area?

A. If you have a basic square area then measure one wall and then measure the adjacent wall and times them together so for example 8m x 5m = 40m2 so if you have a few different areas just measure it into different squares and do that then add them together to figure out how many m2 your floor area is.

A. To figure out how many boxes of flooring that you need based off how many m2 your area is, follow this example equation but replace it with the correct m2 to suit your Product and area. ( 56m2/area devided by 1.62m2/box ) = 34.56 boxes wich rounds up to 35 boxes. For most layouts you need to allow atleast 10% for wastage for offcuts and possibly more if there is alot of angle cuts. To figure out the amount of wastage to allow for your order follow this example equation ( 35/boxes X 0.10 or required percentage of wastage = 3.5 boxes for wastage wich rounds up to 4 boxes, 35/boxes+4/boxes wastage =39 boxes ) in total that you will need to order to have enough to finish your floor. You can always contact us and we can figure out the quantity you need for you based off your area or give you a free measure and quote.

Q. What is Underlay, Trims and scotia used for when installing flooring and do I need it ?

A. Underlay is for when you are installing any type of flooring other then hybrid as it provides an underlayment under your flooring to make it more comfortable on your feet and to reduce noise when walking. You do not need to use underlay when using hybrid floorboards but can choose to add additional better underlay underneath with acoustic properties if you want to.

A. Trims are used for when you want a neat finish at a doorway where you have ended your floorboards or if you have a transition from your new floor to an existing floor or in some cases against tiled entryways/stone kitchens instead of scotia to give a neater look. They are needed in some cases to cover the expansion left near sliding doors etc. . Trims are not always needed but are recommended for a better finish to your floor.

A. Scotia is only needed if you decide to install your new floor without taking off any skirting boards, (some people do this for affordability reasons or to avoid having to paint them again etc. ) it will be needed in this case to cover the 10mm expansion left around all of the outside edges of your flooring and will get nailed or glued to the skirting board to give it a neat finish. Alternatively you can take off all of your skirting boards and leave the 10mm expansion off the wall instead and then replace the skirting back on top to cover any expansion to give a neat finish also.
